The Foundation course in Psychotherapy is designed to allow students flexible access to high quality teaching materials on the area of psychotherapy and related fields as well as a personal and substantial experience of the psychotherapeutic relationship. It is possible to commence the course at any time.
There are five modules four of which are taken online:
Module 1: Personal psychotherapy (15 weekly sessions)
Module 2: The theory of personality (Online by distant learning)
Module 3: Conflict management (Online by distant learning)
Module 4: Stress management (Online by distant learning)
Module 5: Theories of psychotherapy (Online by distant learning)
Each student is allocated an online tutor who will assist with course material, queries and assignments.
Each student is allocated a therapist. There are 15 weekly sessions which must be completed within 32 weeks of starting the course. The sessions are confidential and there is no assessment on this aspect of the course.
Module 1 is not assessed. Modules 2 to 5 are assessed by way of assignments. Assignments are submitted to the online tutor.
Successful students are awarded the Institute's Foundation Certificate in Psychotherapy.
The course fee is Euro 1,435 to include the psychotherapy sessions and course materials. A non-refundable deposit of Euro 450 is required to secure a place.
Admission is by application form and interview. Interviews are normally arranged within 14 days of receipt of application form. Interviews take place countrywide.
