Tivoli Institute/University of Sheffield MSc in Psychotherapy Studies

The Tivoli Institute has recently developed a collaboration with the University of Sheffield's School of Health and Related Research. From June 2007, graduates of the Institute's 3 year professional programme will be eligible to apply for an MSc in Psychotherapy by online distance learning.

This unique MSc programme was developed by the University of Sheffield (Profs Emmy van Deurzen and Digby Tantam) as part of a European-wide research project on psychotherapy and distance learning (SEPTIMUS) which was
funded by the EU.

The course, which consists of eight modules, is taught by interactive web-based online methods. It is therefore not necessary to travel to Sheffield for any part of the programme. The modules are:

1) Well-being and mental health
2) Existential and human issues
3) Conflict management
4) An overview of different methods of psychotherapy and personal change
5) Ethics in counselling and psychotherapy
6) Cultural competence in counselling and psychotherapy
7) Development through the life-cycle
8) Research methods

Following completion of the MSc programme, there will be an opportunity for graduates demonstrating the capacity for independent research to apply to undertake an MPhil or PhD.
